Its been over 2 years since Betsy and I worked together, and now my relationship with food is the best it's been in a very long time. I eat intuitively, just listening to what my body is telling me. I think back often to how food used to control my thoughts everyday, how obsessed I was with controlling what I eat, and I am so thankful to have found Betsy. Now I hardly think about food, I eat when I’m hungry and stop when I’m satisfied. I frequently think about the things she taught me, that I still have never heard anyone else talk about (why is that??). Seeing how many people have such a poor relationship with food and how so many people I know are on crazy, controlling, fad diets right now, I often wish they could hear Betsy's wisdom! Name withheld
Words can’t describe how happy I am to be in control of my eating disorder. I came to you when I hit an all time low with binge eating, and since our last conversation, I haven’t binged at all. I used to feel so trapped mentally, and being free from all of that has been such a blessing. You proved to me that counseling DOES work when you find the right person. Thank you for impacting my life profoundly. Miranda
I came to Betsy for a problem with overeating that had plagued me for years. Even though I was desperate to lose 25 pounds, I couldn't stop myself from sabotaging my efforts. I had been to other dietitians and to therapists over the years, but for some reason this was different. For the first month we met every week for an hour, and then we moved it to meeting every two weeks. We met for about 6 months. Our sessions were both therapeutic and practical, since Betsy's role is actually both therapist and dietitian. Most of our sessions were conducted by facetime because I didn't have time to drive there. During some rough weeks I would text her regularly and she would respond. My binge eating is completely gone now, and although I still want to lose a little bit more weight, I am not as caught up in it as I used to be. I don't obsesses over eating and weight much anymore. I am focused on things that matter more to me, like my family and my job." Amy from Cartersville, GA
In four short months Betsy has moved me from a place of shame and breakdown over my habits and my weight to a place of strength, confidence and a changed lifestyle. She has not put me on a diet, she has not told me how to live, but she has opened my eyes to the burden that food had been for me, and has trained me to see myself in a new light; to look past the shell that holds in my spirit, and to appreciate the light that glows from within. Betsy Thurston was unbelievably helpful for my journey from overweight to a normal weight. I had some weight issues that got so huge and seemed so big that I really did not know where to start. She has been able to help me put things into sizable pieces and parts so that I am able to manage my eating and lose weight without feeling like I am deprived of everything! And that for me is everything because I want to live a happy full life! I do phone sessions with her, as I live out of the area. She is no nonsense, very honest, straight forward and does not rely on anything "gimmicky". I have lost 30 pounds now and feel a lot more confident and hopeful about the future . I had an amazing experience working with her. Kelly*
Betsy is as much a therapist as a nutritionist! It was a process to really understand my eating habits. She was flexible in helping me uncover what was happening one layer at a time, and patient when I didn't stick to my goals. She provided me a list of great suggestions that I use daily. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about her work and I would highly recommend her. You won't find anyone who cares more about your success than Betsy! GaGolfGirl *
Betsy was my nutritionist when I was suffering from anorexia 3 years ago. I met with her by Skype with my mom every week. I came across her website today and wanted to reach out and thank her for the impact she had in my recovery. I will be graduating college in May with a degree in Psychology. Betsy helped me get through my lowest point and live to reach my potential. Name withheld
Betsy was more than just a nutritionist, she was a therapist to me as well. She helped me understand my eating habits instead of putting me on a diet. I couldn't believe how quickly I saw a change in my emotional and physical health and in my weight. She was so easy to reach in an emergency and answered my emails immediately. Her office was so peaceful for me! Name withheld
Betsy is an awesome nutritionist. She always took the time to answer any questions and made herself completely available. She is warm, friendly, extremely educated about nutrition, and professional. I was so impressed with the progress I have made with her and can't believe how much weight I have lost. She is also the best cheer leader ever! Serrell
Betsy is a true Godsend for me. I have struggled with an eating disorder for over five years, and she is the first person I have found that really got to the roots of the problem and has helped me start to beat the disease from every angle. She pushes me to work hard and improve, and her guidance has put me on the true path to recovery. I do my sessions with her by Skype and I love talking to her from the comfort of my home. She gives me homework assignments and tips to improve both my mental and physical well-being. Don't think twice--if you have an eating disorder, call her. The Recovering Athlete*
I started working with Betsy because I had become exhausted by my life-long struggle with food and yo-yo dieting. Initially my goal was to learn healthy eating habits and lose weight, which I have done. Ironically, because of her expertise I have learned that my life-long weight problem has never been about the food. Betsy has truly opened my eyes to finally nurturing my body AND soul. Not only have I never felt this good physically, I am on my way to becoming whole spiritually and emotionally. If you are at a point in your life where you truly want to change, make Betsy a part of your game plan. She has played a pivotal role in my transformation and has changed my life for the better. She can change yours too! KatieP*
I came to Betsy when I was so underweight that every doctor and dietitian and therapist I saw recommended that I go to an inpatient eating disorder facility. The problem was that I didn't have the money to go and I had been once before and I just wasn't going again. Betsy wanted me to at least go to an intensive outpatient program but I couldn't, because it required too many hours and I would have lost my job. She agreed to work with me, and over a period of almost 9 months I moved into the range of a healthy weight. I feel so much better now!!! When we first started working together I was convinced that I wouldn't be able to stand my body at a "healthy weight", but now I am OK with my current weight. At first we started with a meal plan designed to help me gain weight slowly, and later she guided away from the meal plan and taught me how to eat intuitively. She helped me find a therapist and the three of us worked together. Betsy was very encouraging and put up with me when I panicked about every calorie and every time I was convinced that I would become a binge eater. She helped me learn how to manage the overwhelming emotions that were so terrifying and made me feel so helpless. To be honest, this was not an easy time for me. I'm not sure I have ever done anything this difficult. But Betsy wouldn't let me give up, and for the first time in a very long time I am not consumed by the fear thoughts. I pretty much have my life back. *The dog lover
I love Betsy because I ended up getting pregnant after working with her, and I had been told that I wouldn't be able to have a baby. I think I was able to conceive because I healed not only my body but my spirit. I am grateful beyond words. And I have a little girl now!! Sarah Grace*
